Prof. Dr. Ingrid van Biezen is hoogleraar vergelijkende politicologie. Zij studeerde en promoveerde aan de Universiteit Leiden. Zij is vervolgens werkzaam geweest aan de University of Birmingham en is als gastdocent verbonden geweest aan de Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore en gastonderzoeker aan Yale University en de University of California, Irvine.

Haar onderzoeksinteresses liggen vooral op het gebied van de vergelijkende politicologie, politieke partijen en partijstelsels, en democratisering en institutionele ontwikkelingen. Haar huidige onderzoek richt zich voornamelijk op de verschillende empirische aspecten en normatieve dimensies van partijregulering en de implicaties hiervan voor de hedendaagse democratie. In dit kader leidt zij op dit moment een groot onderzoeksproject 'Re-conceptualising democracy', dat wordt gefinancieerd door de European Research Council.
