Gepensioneerd en gastmedewerker.
Zijn interesse betreft in het bijzonder de theorie en toepassingen van meerdimensionale schaaltechnieken en (niet-lineaire) multivariate analyse. In beide families van technieken gaat het erom met behulp van 'plaatjes' de samenhangen van objecten (stimuli), personen en variabelen (bijv. vragen in een vragenlijst) weer te geven. Toepassingen vooral op het gebied van de cognitieve en sociale psychologie (bv. woordbetekenissen, persoonswaarnemingen, impliciete theorieën, communicatie en pijnbeleving).
Hij is een van de auteurs van de MPQ-DLV, de Nederlandstalige versie van de McGill Pain Questionnaire. Een voorbeeld van deze vragenlijst uit 1989 is te vinden onder MPQ-DLV specimen. De handleiding voor gebruik en scoring staat onder MPQ-DLV handleiding. Hij doet onderzoek naar de psychometrische eigenschappen van dit instrument en de toepassingen van deze vragenlijst bij het bestuderen van pijn. Zijn publicaties waarin de MPQ-DLV gebruikt is, zijn te vinden onder MPQ-DLV publicaties.

Dr. Van der Kloot is auteur van het boek Meerdimensionale schaaltechnieken voor gelijkenis- en keuzedata dat in 1997 verschenen is bij uitgeverij Lemma te Utrecht. Sinds enige jaren is dis boek niet meer in de boekhandel te verkrijgen. Het MDS boek is in pdf-vorm (gezipped) te downloaden.
